Bruce A. Wilson

“Nature and the outdoors have always been a part of my life. It has an endless supply of subjects, is a great source of learning, and is full of fleeting moments and beauty hidden in plain view.”

Bruce Wilson earned his Bachelor’s Degree of Fine Arts from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design and a Botanical Art and Illustration Certificate from the Minnesota School of Botanical Art. He has been an instructor at the botanical art school since 2006 teaching classes in Pen and Ink, Drawing, and Carbon Dust. Other teaching engagements include a workshop at the Burren College of Art in Ireland and classes at the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum. In 2007, he was the recipient of the Anne Ophelia Dowden grant awarded by the American Society of Botanical Artists for work on an independent study project on the Wild Heathers of the Scottish Highlands. Exhibitions have included the 2009 Filoli Art Exhibition, the 2009 BISCOT Exhibit at Gardening Scotland and Royal Botanical Garden Edinburgh, the Pacific Science Center (Seattle), the Huntington Botanical Gardens, and multiple times at the ASBA/HSNY International Juried Botanical Art where he received Best of Show in 2006. He has also had solo and group exhibits at various venues such as the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum, the Bell Museum of Natural History, Bloomington Center for the Arts, the Bakken Museum, and the Hopkins Center For the Arts.

Bruce has completed work on four published books and done numerous magazine artwork for gardening publications, children’s magazines, and medical publications. He has worked in production and post-production in the film and video industry since college and served as Director of Photography for independent feature film development at the Sundance Institute in Utah and for Moonstone International in Great Britain.
