'For the love of plants.'

Being a lifelong painter with an education in botany, horticulture and field biology, botanical illustration was the next step; to amalgamate the passions of art, science and nature.

Claire is based in the beautiful scenery of West Wales, where there is no shortage of nature to be inspired by. Every hedgerow, forest and garden holds a myriad of challenging subjects waiting to be tackled with the brush.

Claire gained a distinction in botanical art in 2007 from the Society of Botanical Artists diploma, and is currently working on commissions and extending her portfolio. Prints can be purchased from her website gallery. (See link below.)

"I work mainly in watercolour which for me is the best medium for depicting the translucence of a petal.

I also use gouache, pen and graphite pencil and work lifesize, from 'live' subjects at home or in the field. Detail, colour, form and texture are important aspects to me as well as correct botanical features and pleasing compositions.
I like to depict the whole life cycle of a plant from bulb to seedpod but I particularly enjoy painting fungi and native British plants."
