Helga Powell is an artist based in beautiful, rural North Herefordshire. Born in London in 1973, she grew up in mid West Wales and developed a passion for painting and drawing from a very young age. After studying at UCL where she gained a BA and MA in Art History between 1992-1999, she worked for several years in London as a picture and academic researcher, moving to Herefordshire with her husband and young family in 2007. A self-taught artist, her visual training and background in the Arts enables her to 'look hard' and delight in the detail.
Working from her own photography, Helga attempts to capture the beauty, structure and intricacies of natural compositions. Her current pieces play on the juxtaposition of sharply focused floral subjects with soft, often light dappled backgrounds.
Herefordshire's landscape is rich in texture and gentle on the eye. It is a county filled with many notable gardens and miles of wonderful hedgerows, providing a floral feast and inspiration through the seasons. Well placed in this setting, she works on commissions from her garden studio.
She is happy to undertake painting any floral subject matter to suit a client's request and has an extensive photographic archive to work from.
Greeting cards and giclée prints are also available of Helga's work. Please see her website below for details and more information.
