Artist's Biography / Statement

With a trained background in Architecture and Graphic Design, I now use these disciplines to influence my work as a Botanical Artist. My pieces have a contemporary feel, with strong and vibrant compositions reflecting my love of design, and all things with a quirky and fun appeal. Although I am mainly a self-taught artist, I recently graduated from the Society of Botanical Artists Diploma in Botanical Illustration with Distinction.

Botanical illustration with its emphasis on accuracy and detail appeals to my technical skills and interest in structural forms but also allows me the freedom of expression in the colours, vibrancy and composition of the natural subjects I now choose to paint. Working mainly in watercolour, subjects can range from humble vegetables with imperfect leaves, to the elegant lily and iris with their sensual, rich colours and striking forms, using many layers of translucent colour to capture their beauty and realism.

Pieces are available as Limited Edition prints, originals and cards, and you can also catch up with the latest news and exhibitions on my Sketchbook Squirrel blog.
