Linda Heppes Funk
Linda Heppes Funk is an artist with thirty-eight years experience in design and illustration. Working from live plant specimens only, specializing in pencil, drybrush watercolour, gouache, and metalpointe drawing, she tutors private students at her studio in Maine, and for many years has taught at various locales, including The New York Botanical Garden; College of the Atlantic, Bar Harbor, Maine; The Farnsworth Art Museum, Rockland, Maine; and in Massachusetts, at the Creative Arts Center, Chatham; South Shore Art Center, Cohasset; and Wellesley College, Wellesley. Her work is exhibited widely and appears in many publications. In addition to work as a fine artist and decorative painter, Ms. Funk designs furnishings fabrics and ceramic dinnerware.
The artist has had one person exhibitions at several venues, to include Ursus Prints, New York; Pennsylvania Horticultural Society and Longwood Gardens,Pennsylvania; Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden, North Carolina; Isleboro Historical Society, Maine; and most recently at the Coastal Maine Botanical Garden (2010, 2012), Boothbay, and Dowling Walsh Gallery, Rockland (2011) in Maine. Her work has shown also at the State Arboretum of Virginia; Sonnenberg Gardens; Delaware Center for Horticulture; Bartlett Arboretum; and the Denver Botanic Gardens. Her drawings are included in the collection of the Hunt Institute for Botanical Documentation, and the Shirley Sherwood International Collection, as well as many private collections.
Ms. Funk is a recipient of the coveted Bouchier Award for Excellence in Botanical Art, presented in October, 2001, by the American Society of Botanical Artists. She is a founding member of the ASBA serving as a Director for six years. In the summer of 2012, she was privileged to be a teaching artist-in-residence at the Coastal Maine Botanical Garden, in Boothbay, Maine. The artist is represented by Turtle Gallery in Deer Isle, and The Gallery at Somes Sound, in Mt. Desert.
